Not every hauling job fits in the back of a pickup. Once you're dealing with several large pieces of furniture, a packed garage, or a bigger cleanout, a trailer usually becomes necessary — both for space and to avoid overloading a truck bed.
The general rule of thumb: a couple of large items can usually ride in a truck bed just fine, but three or more starts pushing into trailer territory, especially with bulky pieces like couches, dressers, or appliances.
